Professional Experience

  • Consultant with UNFPA country office in Egypt (2008)
    • Link between UNFPA country office and World AIDS Campaign Task force regarding the preparations of the next World AIDS Day Celebrations.
    • Work on preparations and logistical needs for the Y-PEER Global Advisory Board meeting.
  • Program Coordinator with Afro-Egyptian Human Rights Organization (AEHRO) (2008 2009)
    • The Program was called Kidmocracy. Its aim was to increase the awareness among high school students about democracy, civil and human rights through a series of engaging competitions followed by support for the winners to establish their own proposed projects within their own communities.
  • Program Coordinator of Hayat Project (2009 Current)
    • A Harm reduction project aiming at reaching most at risk population in Egypt, especially Injecting Drug users, sex workers and Men who have sex with Men.
    • My main responsibilities are running the Comprehensive Care Center where I manage a team of outreach workers, who are responsible of spreading the word and bringing clients to the center who in return can benefit from the services provided such as; Voluntary counseling and testing for HIV/AIDS, a clinic for any medical assistance and free condoms and needles.

  • International Advanced Trainer of Trainers on peer education methodologies, certified by UNFPA through Youth Peer Network
    • Trainer at the International Advanced ToT on peer education in Cairo, November 2007.
    • Trainer at the International Training of Peer Educators (IPET) in London, August 2007.
    • Member of the Global Advisory Board 2007 2008.
    • Trainer of peer educators in Coptic Churches in Egypt, September 2007
    • Trainer in Siraj leadership skills building workshops (regional program by Save The Children, USAID), 2007
    • Trainer of peer educators in Secondary schools within the Anti AIDS Clubs, 2006 2007
  • Member of the National Y-PEER Egypt Core team and Y-PEER Focal Point since 2006
    • Advocacy and resource mobilization to establish a campaign on sexual and reproductive health in the Coptic Church
    • Supervision and Technical support for the Adolescence Health program run by the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood in rural areas.
  • Regional Focal Point for Middle East and North Africa region of the Global Youth Coalition on HIV/AIDS (2006-2008)
    • Worked on the OIYP-GYCA case study survey on successful HIV/AIDS interventions.
    • Organization of World AIDS Day in cooperation with the National AIDS Program, UNAIDS and six different youth-led Initiatives.
    • Editor of the National Youth Shadow Report 2008 about the country progress in regards to the UNGASS Declaration of commitments.
  • An Action Partner and member of Oxfam International Youth Partnership for 2007 - 2010
    • Attended the first Kaleidoscope in Australia, October 2007 where we had a series of workshops on different topics including; Gender Equality, LGBT Rights, Creative art and photography in development and Youth empowerment.
    • Member of the HIV/AIDS Program of the Oxfam International Youth Partnership.
    • Attended the International AIDS Conference as part of the Oxfam delegation.
  • Attended the XVII International AIDS Conference 2008 where I:
    • Facilitated one of the skills building workshops titled People Living with HIV/AIDS in the Arab States: Working for them? Or with them?
    • Attended as part of the Oxfam delegation, participated in the pre and post OIYP conferences and shared in managing the OIYP booth in the global village.
  • Attended the XVI International AIDS Conference 2006 where I:
    • Was speaker in a session named "Learning from the Leadership of Young People and Positive Youth in the Global Response to HIV/AIDS"
    • Was also a facilitator in one of the pre-conference sessions named "Intricacies of the Virus"
    • Participated in the MTV 48fest and was part of the team that produced a three  minutes movie named "The Last Time" about women in developing countries and how poverty render them vulnerable. The movie won the Finalist Award in the New York International Film Festival
  • Spoke in the UNGASS debriefings before the high level meetings in May, 2008 where I presented the situation in Egypt and the Middle East in general regarding different HIV/AIDS issues.
  • Participated in UNGASS +5 Review meetings and Youth Summit 2006 where I:
    • Was a speaker in an event at the UN Church center and my speech was included in a manual published based on that event. The manual is mainly used to sensitize young people and the religious communities in regard to stigma and taboos that comes with HIV/AIDS.
    • Shared in Developing an Advocacy message as a Youth Declaration about their needs
  • Member of Global Youth Partners (2006 2008)
    • Peer education sessions about reproductive health and HIV related issues at secondary schools where we have established the Anti AIDS Clubs.
    • I was part of the team and shared in advocating for establishment of Anti AIDS Clubs in the schools.
    • I am one of the supervisors and facilitators of the Anti AIDS Clubs in the schools.
